Understanding Health Insurance
Health insurance is a difficult and complex world to navigate without a basic understanding of the topography. Please take a moment to read this information and to review these short, simple, and informative videos. In doing so, we hope that you will obtain the required education and necessary tools to easily negotiate and smoothly traverse the health insurance world. Providing you with this information is in-line with our practice commitment to minimize the associated stress and anxiety of surgery.
Oral surgery offices are unique from a financial perspective because we work with both dental and medical insurance plans Some oral surgery procedures are considered “dental” in nature and must be billed to dental insurance, some procedures are considered “medical” in nature and must be billed to your medical insurance, and some procedures may be billed to both your dental and medical insurance. Which policy and/or in what order claims are submitted and paid depends on the procedure being performed and the requirements of your individual policy. Keep in mind that some procedures may not be covered by either insurance policy. Often times, we obtain a pre-authorization from your insurance company to determine your coverage and benefits so that we have an estimate beforehand of your out-of-pocket expense.
We participate with the areas most popular dental and medical insurance plans but, because of the extensive number of plans available, we are unable to keep an accurate list of these plans on this page. Please call to verify our participation with your particular plan. If we do not “par” or participate with your particular insurance plan, we may still be able to treat you but: 1) Your plan may not pay, in which case you would be responsible for the cost 2) Your plan may pay but the amount that you must pay out-of-pocket may be higher when compared to a participating provider 3) You may still have a deductible, a co-insurance, and/or a co-payment.
Please keep in mind that, even with participating insurance coverage, you will likely still have an out-of-pocket cost for your visit and procedure. If you have an annual deductible that has not been met you may have to pay for the entire cost of your treatment until reaching your set deductible. If your annual deductible has been met, you may still have to pay a co-insurance, co-payment, or or other non-covered costs.Again, please be assured that we will work with you and your insurance company to obtain the maximum coverage for your procedure. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask our staff. They can be reached by phone at Moon Township Office Phone Number 412-264-8440.
